What is a Group Living Residential Unit?

It is a dwelling unit that is used for any of those uses identified within the use category of “Group Living Residential”  in Article 4, Section 21 of the Grand Prairie Unified Development Code.

Do I need a Certificate of Occupancy for my Group Living Residential Unit?

A Certificate of Occupancy is required for all residential “Group Homes” with more than five “5” persons (excluding staff) who reside on a 24-hour basis and receive custodial care. (Ref. 2021 IBC)


Do I need to install a fire sprinkler system?

A Fire suppression system is required for all residential “Group Homes” with more than five “5” persons who receive medical or custodial care. (Ref. 2021 IBC and IFC)
