The Building Inspections Division conducts the following types of permits and inspections within the city limits of Grand Prairie. Permitting requirements vary considerably depending on the scope of the project. Here’s what you need to know about acquiring permits before you get started.
All residential accessory structures, including sheds, garages, shops, and gazebos, require an approved permit.
All residential living areas, including decks, patios, and porches, require an approved permit.
All residential approaches (driveways), regardless of size, require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential carports, regardless of size, require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential decks, patios and/or porches, regardless of size, require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential demolition requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All electrical work requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential fences require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
Any foundation repairs will require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All Residential Irrigation work requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All manufactured and mobile homes require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All mechanical work requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All new residential construction regardless of size, require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All new duplex residential construction, regardless of size, requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential plumbing work requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
An approved permit by the Building Inspections Division is required for the construction of a swimming pool or spa at a residential property.
No repairs may be started on any housing rehabilitation job until a building permit has been issued by the Building Inspections Division.
Remodeling improvements or making changes that alter the footprint of your home will require an approved permit.
A residential re-roof permit is required for any roof replacement/recovering or repair.
An approved residential permit by the Building Division might be required for a retaining wall depending on the scope and scale of the wall.
An approved permit by the Building Inspections Division is required for installation of any residential solar panel (photovoltaic system).
Residential window or door replacements require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.
Permits are processed in approximately 10 business days. Depending on updates needed from the applicant, as this can result in longer approval times.
