Residential Irrigation Work Permit

All Residential Irrigation work requires an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.

Step 1.Review Requirements

The following is required prior to issuance of a Residential Irrigation Permit:

  • Address and use of property information
  • Owner and Contractor information
  • Type of Installation (New, Remodel, Repair, Addition)
  • Category of plumbing work (lawn sprinkler, water service, plumbing system, etc.)
  • Plans indicating where irrigation will be installed

Step 2.Apply Online

You can apply online for a permit through the City of Grand Prairie's Customer Self-Service portal. First time users will need a valid email address to set up an account. It takes about 5 minutes to create a new account.

What next?

After completing the online application, permits are processed in approximately 5-10 business days. Depending on updates needed from the applicant, as this can result in longer approval times.

Inspections

Residential - Irrigation

  • All inspections shall comply with the 2021 International Residential Code.
  • For all Irrigation rules and requirements please reference The Unified Development Code (UDC) Article 8 and Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 344.
  • Work shall not be done beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection without first obtaining approval. (Ref. 2021 IRC, 109.4)
  • Inspection requests shall be the responsibility of the permit holder or their agent to notify the Building Inspections Division using the customer self-service portal when work is ready for inspection and shall provide access to and means for inspection of work.
  • In addition to inspections in Sections R109.1.1 through R109.1.4, Building Inspections shall have the authority to make or require any other inspections to ascertain compliance with the adopted code and other laws enforced by the jurisdiction.
