Residential Manufactured / Mobile Home Permit

A manufactured home is defined as a single family dwelling unit built according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)  Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1976. A mobile home is defined as a factory-built dwelling unit built prior to June 15, 1976, to standards other than the HUD Code. All manufactured homes and mobile homes regardless of size, require an approved permit by the Building Inspections Division.

Step 1.Review Requirements

The following is required prior to issuance of a Residential Manufactured / Mobile Home:

  • Address and legal description of project
  • Owner, Contractor and/or Architect information
  • Square footage and area involved
  • Class of work, description (electrical, plumbing, mechanical), valuation and market value of property
  • Site Plan
    • Property line
    • Existing easements
    • Location of proposed addition
    • Structure dimensions
    • Setbacks from property lines and other structure
  • Specifications (building materials, height, length, width)

Step 2.Apply Online

You can apply online for a building permit through the City of Grand Prairie's Customer Self-Service portal. First time users will need a valid email address to set up an account. It takes about 5 minutes to create a new account.

What next?

After completing the online application, permits are processed in approximately 5-10 business days. Depending on updates needed from the applicant, as this can result in longer approval times.
