Volunteering with Animal Services

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Grand Prairie Animal Services Adoption Center (GPAS). We rely heavily on the assistance of our caring, dedicated, and hard-working volunteers. Each and every day, our volunteers help to improve the lives of the homeless animals.

There are numerous ways to assist at our shelter. Volunteers can:

  • Assist with kennel maintenance
  • Exercise pets
  • Train animals
  • Socialize animals
  • Provide mental stimulation
  • Assist in helping pets find a good home
  • Foster pets that need extra time or help
  • Educate the community about responsible pet ownership and kindness to animals
  • Assist at many special GPAS community and fundraising events

All volunteers must pre-register and attend an orientation. The orientation will provide you with background information about GPAS history, programs, and services of the shelter, as well as basic animal handling.

Kids Who Care

For Kids 14 and Under

If you have kids under 14 that want to be involved with GPAS, then we have the program for you! Our Kids Who Care Program is designed to get kids that are too young to volunteer with GPAS involved with the animals!

Individual children can help the animals through Kids Who Care by fundraising, creating toys for the animals, collecting donated items from our wish list, and much more!

For Groups

Groups, such as school classes, teams, troops, etc, can also participate in Kids Who Care! You can help GPAS by fundraising, collecting donated items from our wish list, and making toys for our animals. On a limited basis, we also offer Kids Who Care educational talks to groups, where a member of our staff will come to your location to talk to the kids about shelter animals as well as how to properly meet and greet animals.

Group Volunteering

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Grand Prairie Animal Services Adoption Center has volunteer opportunities available for corporate and other service groups seeking special projects to benefit the organization. Projects typically include special events (lemonade stand at shelter, etc.), donation drives and shelter maintenance projects.

Group volunteers do not interact directly with or handle shelter animals.

Large groups take planning. We need to know at least 30 days in advance and we cannot guarantee we will have an on-site project for you, but we will see if our needs match your group’s interests.

If you have any questions or need help with hosting an event, please feel free to contact us.

*Tours of our facility can also be scheduled!
