Health Benefits of Clean Air

Have a look at these benefits of clean air and see what is so important about the quality of the air we breathe.

8 benefits of breathing clean air

  1. Improved lung function.  Clean fresh air will help you cleanse your lungs and bring more oxygen to your cells to improve the cleansing actions of the lungs. If you increase the oxygen levels in your body, you will increase your energy levels too.
  2. Improved cognitive ability.  Recent studies have shown that long-term exposure to particulate air pollution is a contributing factor to cognitive decline. Studies on mice have also shown that similar exposure can lead to depression, already one of the most common mental health ailments.  Clean air means more oxygen which can increase your brain function. Breathing clean air can improve your concentration, you will feel sharper, and think more clearly.
  3. Lower risk of heart disease. When thinking of how air quality impacts human health, few people consider the heart as an organ that can be damaged by airborne contaminants. Several studies, however, have established a strong link between long-term exposure to particulate air pollution and cardiovascular disease.  It can also improve your blood pressure and heart rate. Experts warn that people with high blood pressure should avoid highly polluted environments because the body must work harder to get the amount of oxygen it needs to function properly.
  4. Increased happiness. The amount of serotonin produced by your body can be influenced by the amount of clean air you inhale. Serotonin is shown to promote a sense of well-being and happiness. That is why people who practice deep breathing of fresh air feel so good.
  5. Stronger immune system. The boost in your immune system happens because white blood cells need more oxygen to kill germs, bacteria, or viruses.
  6. Better food digestion. The fresh air is good for your digestive system because it helps your body to process food more efficiently.
  7. Clean Air Offers Anti-Aging Benefits. Exposure to toxins in the air is one of the many chemical factors in modern aging, especially in the aging of the skin. With cleaner air, skin will be more likely to retain its elasticity over time, preventing wrinkles. Less exposure to pollution can also help to clear up chemical-related complexion problems.
  8. Lower Risk of Diabetes. Research has found that the risk for type 2 diabetes is substantially increased by both gaseous and particulate air pollution.
