A group of eight people participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at an outdoor park. The group stands on a paved area holding a blue ribbon, with one person seated in a wheelchair at the center. Green and tan balloon displays frame both sides of the scene. Trees, a blue sky with scattered clouds and a park sign are visible in the background. Several participants hold ceremonial scissors as the ribbon is cut.

The City of Grand Prairie’s Parks, Arts and Recreation Department celebrated the completion of its new community park, Great Southwest Nature Park, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. The new park is a 2.5-mile-long route focused on nature, education and interactive elements, located at 651 E. Avenue J, Grand Prairie, Texas 75050.

Mayor Ron Jensen, Mayor Pro Tem Kurt Johnson and City Councilmember Jorja Clemson officially cut the ribbon, marking a milestone in the city’s commitment to expanding local parks.

The park has distinctive features to help visitors navigate the area with ease while also learning about the wildlife that resides there. Helpful features include:

  • Interpretive signs that educate about wildlife and native plants
  • Interactive game stations along the trails
  • Wayfinding signs that help guide trail users
  • Emergency 911 signs that feature location tags

We look forward to seeing our community connect with nature at their next park outing.
