Grand Prairie Celebrates Hong Kong Market Milestone

The Grand Prairie City Council celebrated one of its most unique and colorful businesses at the Oct. 20 council meeting, as Mayor Ron Jensen presented a proclamation to Hong Kong Market, and Asia Times Square CEO Matthew Loh.
"Over the past four decades, Hong Kong Market has grown into a beloved destination serving residents and visitors throughout Grand Prairie, the Dallas-Fort Worth region and beyond," Mayor Jensen said. "We'd like to extend our congratulations and best wishes for continued success in the Grand Prairie community."
Hong Kong Market was founded in Arlington in 1986, and expanded with a second location in Dallas in 1997. In 2008, the Arlington store relocated to Grand Prairie, becoming the anchor of Asia Times Square, a destination for shopping, dining, cultural celebrations, and community engagement.
"For our family, this milestone is about much more than 40 years in business," Loh said. "It is about gratitude! Our community gave our family an opportunity to pursue the American dream, and we could never have made this journey alone. We owe so much to the dedication of our employees, the loyalty of our vendors, and the unwavering support of our customers. Our vendors are like partners, our employees are family, and our customers have become lifelong friends and part of our story. Some first visited with their parents as children and now return with their own children and grandchildren. That is what makes these 40 years so meaningful."
Loh also extended his appreciation to elected officials, civic leaders, business partners, sponsors and community organizations for years of support.
"Hong Kong Market Place will continue its commitment to serving diverse communities, while Asia Times Square carries forward its mission of “Preserving Traditions, Promoting Cultures," Loh said.
Hong Kong Market's 40th anniversary celebration will take place Oct. 23–25 at Asia Times Square.
