Entertainment Takes Center Stage in Downtown Grand Prairie

A new gathering place is taking center stage in Downtown Grand Prairie. 

Next month, the Century Stage at The Commons will officially welcome its first events, opening a new outdoor entertainment space in the heart of downtown.

Located just south of City Hall, the new stage is designed to become a focal point for downtown events, performances and community celebrations. It is part of the larger transformation taking place around The Commons, an evolving downtown district that will create opportunities for new retail, multifamily living, public spaces and more. 

A Grand Stage Built for Grand Prairie 

The Century Stage at The Commons gives Grand Prairie a new home for outdoor entertainment in the heart of downtown. 

The space will host concerts, festivals, cultural celebrations, movies and community events. Beginning in spring 2027, residents can expect a more consistent schedule of programming, with local artists and community groups playing an important role. 

Planned programming could include live local music, Movies on the Lawn and multi-day festivals, along with other community-focused events. 

"Grand Prairie has so many talented artists, performers and community organizations, and this gives us a place to showcase them," said Zane King, Director of Entertainment & Experiences. "We're looking forward to building a consistent calendar of events that gives folks another reason to come downtown." 

Events will be promoted through the City's community event calendar so residents can keep up with what's happening at the stage. 

A Grand Prairie Landmark Returns 

The stage isn't the only new addition to the City Hall campus. 

Dedicated in 1976, Grand Prairie’s Liberty Bell has been a fixture in the heart of downtown for nearly 50 years. In spring 2025, the bell was removed for refurbishment as construction began on the new outdoor stage. The restoration included the bell's wooden yoke, hardware, and other bell components. 

Now, the bell is returning to a new home beneath a new shade structure near the stage. The bell's original plaques will return as part of the installation, preserving the history and stories that have surrounded this landmark for generations. 

The First Celebrations 

The Century Stage won't sit empty for long. 

Its first major event will be Día de la Raza on Sunday, Oct. 11, as part of Grand Prairie's Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. From 2 to 8 p.m., the community can enjoy ballet, DJs, mariachi and more in downtown Grand Prairie. 

The stage will also take center stage during Main Street Fest, Oct. 23–25, when downtown Grand Prairie comes alive for the annual three-day celebration. This year's lineup includes headliners The Commodores, Sammy Kershaw and Keith Nieto, along with additional entertainment throughout the weekend.

The new stage also creates an opportunity to bring more of Main Street Fest's activity together in the heart of downtown. The carnival will move closer to the stage, creating a more connected festival footprint and giving visitors another place to gather and enjoy the entertainment.

Designed for Community 

The Century Stage was designed with the surrounding downtown community in mind. 

Its sound system is intentionally scaled for the space, allowing performances and events to be heard clearly without relying on the large speaker systems used at major concert venues. Events will follow all City of Grand Prairie sound guidelines, and scheduled stage activities will end by 11 p.m. Community festivals will generally wrap up during the day. 

The space is also designed to be casual and accessible. Residents can bring lawn chairs and coolers to enjoy events on the lawn. Event-specific rules will be communicated as programming is announced. 

As downtown continues to take shape, the Century Stage at The Commons will provide a place for residents to gather, celebrate and experience the community in a new way.
