Adoptable Pets Take Flight to New Possibilities
Published on June 11, 2025
Five adoptable pets from Grand Prairie Animal Services took flight to new possibilities on the other side of the country, and more are getting set to join them.
The Wings of Rescue organization carried five GPAS adoptable pets to shelters in Maryland and New York May 31, in what we hope is the first of many more flights. Three dogs that made the journey are pictured above.
Wings of Rescue is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteer pilots that fly adoptable pets from at-risk shelters and disaster areas to shelters in the northeast, which are typically less crowded.
Advocates claim stricter spay/neuter laws in northeast states lead to fewer stray and surrendered animals. While this is ultimately a good thing, it leads to more families looking to adopt, than pets available at their local shelters.
Wings of Rescue and organizations like it, work tirelessly to ease the burden on crowded shelters while providing healthy, adoptable pets new opportunities in states where families are looking to adopt.
Four Grand Prairie Animal Services adoptable pets are scheduled to board the next Wings of Rescue flight Saturday, June 14.
