Spill Contained After Ruptured Sewer Main

The spill that led to Friday's lake closures has been contained and no public drinking water supplies have been threatened or contaminated, according to the Trinity River Authority.

The TRA Central Regional Wastewater System treatment plant identified a sewer pipeline rupture near 6321 Mirabella Boulevard around 1:00 p.m. Friday.

The outflow is diluted and will not affect service to customers, according to the TRA.

Out of an abundance of caution Lynn Creek Park and Loyd Park, are closed until further notice as well as Britton Park for day use.

Private Wells:

The TRA advises residents using private drinking water supply wells located within 1/2-mile of the spill site or within the potentially affected area to take the following precautions.

• Use only water that has been distilled or boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute for all personal uses, including drinking, cooking, bathing, and tooth brushing. 

• Individuals with private water wells should have their well water tested and disinfected, if necessary, prior to discontinuing distillation or boiling.

Aquatic life in the area of the outflow was affected, and TRA has notified the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

People who purchase water from a public water supply may contact their water supply distributor to determine if the water is safe for personal use.
