Grand Prairie Awarded "Keep Texas Beautiful" Grant
Published on April 30, 2025
The City of Grand Prairie has been awarded a 2024 Our Texas, Our Future Grant from Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB).
The $2,345 grant will support the Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful community project of installing an automated drip irrigation system in the Haven Community Garden orchard to increase water conservation and food production.
Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful is a program within the City of Grand Prairie's Solid Waste and Recycling Department that focuses on the three main pillars of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful: litter prevention, recycling, and beautification. KGPB partners with the local school district and local businesses as well as scout troops and other volunteer groups to help make Grand Prairie the cleanest, greenest, most beautiful place in Texas.
“We’re incredibly thankful to H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful for supporting the Haven Community Garden with this grant,” said Dr. Patricia Redfearn, Solid Waste and Recycling Director for the City of Grand Prairie. “Thanks to your generosity, we’ll be able to grow more fresh fruit for the community. Your support means the world to us, and it’s a big step forward in making our garden more sustainable and productive. Thank you for helping us grow!”
The City of Grand Prairie plans celebrate the completion of the project with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on May 22, 2025 at the Haven Community Garden, located at 1513 S Belt Line Rd, Grand Prairie.
Grand Prairie hosts six community gardens, through the Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful Program, where residents can grow their own vegetables for free. Giving back is an essential part of the community garden program with over 9,350 pounds of produce donated in the past year.
Through funding from H-E-B, Keep Texas Beautiful is providing 12 affiliate communities grants to support educational and programmatic opportunities relating to sustainability, recycling, litter prevention, beautification, water conservation, and native species and habitat conservation.
In addition to Grand Prairie, the affiliate communities of Angelina County, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Fulshear, League City, Pflugerville, San Antonio, South Padre Island, Snyder, Temple, and Waco also received a 2024 Our Texas, Our Future Grant.
“We’re grateful for sponsors like H-E-B, whose support helps us in our mission to clean and beautify communities across Texas,” says Suzanne Kho, Executive Director of KTB. “The diversity of proposals we received was inspiring, and we’re excited to see what our affiliates accomplish with the support of the 2024 Our Texas, Our Future grants.”
