5 City Council Members Selected to advocate for Grand Prairie in D.C.

Five Grand Prairie City Council Members have been appointed to NLC federal advocacy committees and councils for 2025.
In their respective roles, they will advocate for Grand Prairie residents at the federal level, addressing concerns like transportation, education, energy and the economy.

Bessye Adams, At Large, Place 7
Adams was reappointed to the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Federal Advocacy Committee, and the Council on Youth, Education and Families. Adams has served on the Council on Youth, Education and Families and the EENR since 2023.
In her role on the Council on Youth, Education, and Families, Adams will work alongside elected officials and youth members from major national organizations, addressing concerns important to children and families.
As a member of the EENR Committee, Adams will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure, solid waste management and more.

Junior Ezeonu, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem At Large, Place 8
Ezeonu has been reappointed to the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Federal Advocacy Committee, as well as the Race Equity And Leadership (REAL) Council. Ezeonu has served on the EENR Committee since 2024, and the REAL Council since 2023.
As a member of NLC’s EENR Committee, Ezeonu will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure, solid waste management and more.
As a member of NLC’s REAL Council, Ezeonu will join a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location that can be replicated across the country.

Jacquin Headen, District 2
Headen has been reappointed to the Community and Economic Development Federal Advocacy Committee, and the Council on Youth, Education and Families. Headen has served in these roles since 2023.
As a member of the Community and Economic Development Federal Advocacy Committee, Headen will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home in Grand Prairie, Texas.
In her role on the Council on Youth, Education, and Families, Headen will work alongside elected officials and youth members from major national organizations, addressing concerns important to children and families.

Kurt Johnson, District 6
Johnson has been appointed to the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Committee. Johnson is the first elected official from the City of Grand Prairie appointed to this committee.
Johnson will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on municipal finance and intergovernmental relations with the federal government.

John Lopez, District 4
John Lopez was reappointed to the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Federal Advocacy Committee.
Lopez has served on this committee since 2021, playing a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home in Grand Prairie, Texas.
