Floodplain Development Permit

A Floodplain Development Permit shall be required for all proposed development within 200 feet of a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) or floodplain to assure conformance with the provisions of Article 15(PDF, 283KB)  of the Unified Development Code (UDC).

Step 1.Review Requirements

The following is required prior to issuance of a Floodplain Development Permit:

Projects that are adjacent to a floodplain may only require Part 1 of the permit form to be completed and submitted for review by the City Floodplain Administrator, Ryan Harrell. Contact the Floodplain Administrator at 972-237-8251 for more information about completing the Floodplain Development Permit or other requirements for development within the floodplain. The Floodplain Development Permit for projects that are in Dallas or Tarrant Counties, and Floodplain Development.*

    • Part (2) of the Floodplain Development Application is required to be prepared, signed, and sealed by a licensed professional engineer in the State of Texas. Electronic copies of the associated models must be provided to the city for review. This should be filled out and uploaded as a document to the Customer Self-Service account with the above Part 1 of the Floodplain Development Permit.

    • Part (3) of the Floodplain Development Application: Person authorized by the property owner who is knowledgeable of this project and is able to respond to questions concerning data provided in this application. This should be filled out and uploaded as a document to the Customer Self-Service account with the above Part 1 and 2 of the Floodplain Development Permit.

Step 2.Apply Online

You can apply online for Part 1 of the Floodplain Development Permit through the City of Grand Prairie's Customer Self-Service portal . (If parts 2 and 3 are also required, they should be filled out and uploaded as documents in your Customer Self-Service account.) First time users will need a valid email address to set up an account. It takes about 5 minutes to create a new account.

Step 3.What happens next?

After completing the online application, permits are processed in approximately 5-10 business days. Depending on updates needed from the applicant, as this can result in longer approval times.
