Roots and Legacy: Celebrating Black History in Grand Prairie

Please note: this is not a Grand Prairie Black History Commission-sponsored Event.

The Grand Prairie Historical Organization & Museum is honored to host a powerful and meaningful Black History program presented by Dr. Angela Luckey-Vaughn on February 19, 2027 at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Prairie Historical Museum, 1516 W. Main Street.

Dr. Luckey-Vaughn’s presentation, “Roots and Legacy: Celebrating Black History in Grand Prairie,” will highlight the stories, families, and lasting contributions of early Black communities whose lives and achievements helped shape the foundation of our city. This evening is designed to preserve personal histories, encourage dialogue, and celebrate the diverse heritage that defines Grand Prairie.

We are also proud to feature distinguished community voices, including Jeff Pointer representing Mosier Valley, Ms. Makini Shakur representing Bear Creek, and Ms. Annette Anderson of the Indigenous Institute of the Americas, speaking on behalf of Behnaz Bigmoradi (Dora Brought Plenty) of Grand Prairie. Their participation will bring depth, perspective, and authenticity to this important historical gathering.

This program represents more than a presentation — it is an investment in the preservation of Grand Prairie’s shared story and a celebration of the people who built and sustained our community. Your attendance would send a strong message of support for heritage, unity, and civic pride. We warmly encourage you to attend and to extend this invitation to colleagues and residents who value the importance of local history.
