Downtown Revitalization

A Bold Vision for the Heart of Grand Prairie

Downtown Grand Prairie is entering an exciting new chapter. Beginning in 2025, the City will launch a series of phased improvements designed to create a more vibrant, walkable, and welcoming downtown while honoring its historic character. These investments will enhance public spaces, improve infrastructure, and set the stage for future development that supports local businesses and community life.

Construction will take place in carefully planned phases through 2028 to minimize disruption while delivering long-term benefits for residents, visitors, and businesses.

What’s Ahead

Main Street – West of City Hall

Former Calvary Church Site
Site preparation will begin in November 2025 and continue through July 2027. This work will prepare the area for future development opportunities along Main Street, including potential new businesses, public spaces, or mixed-use projects that contribute to downtown’s growth and vitality.

City Hall Green Space

South of City Hall
Starting in November 2025, the City will enhance this civic gathering space with:

  • A new outdoor performance stage for concerts, events, and community celebrations

  • Reinstallation of the historic Liberty Bell with a new commemorative plaque

  • Added shade structures to improve comfort and usability throughout the year

These upgrades will transform the green space into a central hub for downtown activity.

Main Street Improvements

NW 6th Street to NE 5th Street
One of the most significant phases of the revitalization begins in winter 2026 and continues through spring 2028. Improvements include:

  • Utility relocation and full roadway reconstruction

  • Conversion to two travel lanes (one eastbound, one westbound)

  • Wider sidewalks and enhanced pedestrian features

These changes are designed to improve safety, encourage walkability, and create a more inviting streetscape for businesses and visitors.

Jefferson Street Reconstruction

State Highway 161 to Cimmaron Trail
Construction will begin in spring 2026 and is expected to conclude by summer 2027. This project will improve roadway durability, traffic flow, and long-term performance along a key downtown corridor.

Jefferson & Main Street Roundabout

To reduce heavy truck traffic through the downtown core, a new roundabout will be constructed east of downtown at the intersection of Jefferson and Main Street.

  • Construction begins: Spring 2026

  • Completion anticipated: Summer 2027

The roundabout will feature a prominent public art installation, serving as a visual gateway to downtown Grand Prairie.

Building a More Connected Downtown

Together, these projects represent a comprehensive approach to downtown revitalization—improving mobility, enhancing public spaces, and creating new opportunities for economic development. As each phase is completed, Downtown Grand Prairie will continue to grow into a more beautiful, functional, and community-focused destination.
