Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen joined City Manager Bill Hills alongside city council members on a tour of Bass Pro Shops led by general manager Kyle Eggleston.
On Monday, Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, members of the Grand Prairie City Council and other city leaders celebrated the city’s booming business development with a sneak peek inside the brand-new Bass Pro Shops set to open to the public June 26.
The 100,000-square-foot facility brings 130 jobs to Grand Prairie and is the latest addition to a growing roster of major businesses setting up shop along the 161 corridor.
“It’s a big day for Grand Prairie,” Jensen said. “Just think about this. There’s no other city that has an IKEA, Bass Pro, Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, and soon to come Topgolf. We’re becoming the entertainment capital of Texas and the staycation capital of Texas.”
Wednesday’s grand opening comes just two weeks before Andretti Indoor Karting and Games opens its doors July 10. The popular venue is next door to Bass Pro and features high-speed electric Superkarts, a multi-level track, arcade, virtual reality games, laser tag and duckpin bowling all within a 96,000-square-foot climate-controlled environment.
Topgolf will break ground later this year and will bring even more jobs and visitors when it’s expected to open in 2025.
“This is fantastic for the city,” said Bill Hills, Grand Prairie City Manager, as he toured Bass Pro Shops on Monday. “We love bringing new things that are rewarding to the citizens of Grand Prairie.”
Wednesday’s grand opening festivities will feature live music, popular anglers, and photo opportunities with trick-shot influencers Dude Perfect.
Ten percent of every dollar spent after the ribbon cutting on Wednesday will benefit local conservation efforts to help keep Grand Prairie clean and beautiful.
