Yesterday at approximately 8:46 p.m., GPFD received multiple calls about visible black smoke and flames coming from a building in the 1900 block of Houston St. On arrival, crews found heavy fire coming from the second floor. Initial arriving units requested a 2-alarm response, which was then increased to a 3-alarm fire response by Command Staff. Firefighters initially attacked the fire offensively but quickly became defensive as the fire continued to push out through the rooftop. The fire was declared under control at approximately 9:27 p.m.

The American Red Cross responded to assist approximately 25 people that were displaced. 17 units of the building were affected by the fire.

There are no civilian or firefighter injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
