Apply for Permit

All garage sales located within the city limits of the City of Grand Prairie are required to register online with the Code Compliance Division. See the step-by-step guide below.

Step 1.Review Requirements

  • Garage sales can only be held at occupied residential property.
  • All Garage Sale Permits are online onlyA printer is required to obtain your Garage Sale Permit and ID Numbers. If you do not have a printer, you can visit the Code Compliance Division's front desk. Provide the permit number and staff can print it for you.
  • There is a limit of two (2) garage sales at a premise during any twelve (12) month period, and each sale may not exceed more than three (3) consecutive calendar days in length.
  • Six signs are allowed upon the lot where the sale is taking place. All signs shall have the permit number affixed thereto and shall not be placed on utility poles or in medians. All signs shall be placed as not to obstruct or impair the view of vehicular or pedestrian traffic and shall be immediately removed at the conclusion of the sale.
  • Signs must be removed after sale.

Step 2.Apply Online

You must apply online for a Garage Sale Permit through the City of Grand Prairie's Customer Self-Service portal. First time users will need a valid email address to set up an account. It takes about 5 minutes to create a new account.

Step 3.Print Permit 

As of 1/1/2022, all Garage Sale Permit applications go through a review process. Please give us 24 hours to verify your Garage Sale Permit after which you can go back to Customer Self-Service to your "Dashboard" to print your garage sale permit. If you do not have a printer, you can visit the Code Compliance Division's front desk. Provide the permit number and staff can print it for you.

How do I cancel a permit?

To cancel a Garage Sale Permit, applicant must mail-in or email both pages to cancel and reschedule within 1 week of permit date to codecomplaints@gptx.org.

How do I access my garage sale certificate?

After you submit your online application, there will be a link to print your certificate. If you decide to print later, just log into your Customer Self-Service account, go to the permit number and print it from there. If you do not have a printer, you can visit the Code Compliance Division's front desk. Provide the permit number and staff can print it for you.
