Music events at the Libraries

The Grand Prairie Libraries are pressing "play" on a summer filled with tunes and grooves. Dance on in to any of these great programs. 

Soul Line Dancing

(Ages 18+) Join us at the Warmack Library for Soul Line Dancing, a fun, energetic class that encourages movement, lifts spirits, and brings people together. No experience or partner needed! This program promotes physical wellness, boosts community morale, and creates an inclusive space where everyone belongs.

Kids Percussion Workshop

(Ages 6+) Professional percussionist Kena Sosa will teach basic drumming techniques on the cajón. Registration: Starting May 22, email cplemmons@gptx.org with your child’s full name and age. Note: Parents must be present with children.

(Ages 18+) Come down to Forever Young Records to pick out some vinyl and borrow books from our mobile library.

Hip-Hop Dance Class

(Ages 18+) Want to bust a move after work? Join us at the Main Library for a hip-hop dance lesson.

The World of the Orchestra

(Ages 4–12) A hands-on, interactive presentation that gives children the chance to hear, see, touch, and explore different aspects of classical music and the orchestra. Includes a story, a performance by a professional musician, and an Instrument Petting Zoo.

Baby Rave

(Ages 0–5) Enjoy family-friendly dance music and get moving with scarves and hula hoops at this special rave just for little ones!

Puttin' on the Hits

(All Ages) Step back into the ‘80s and compete in the popular lip-synching variety show, Puttin' on the Hits! Put together an act with your family, friends, or by yourself. Learn new songs from the ‘80s and complete your act with just the right outfit. Registration: Email jllusk@gptx.org Note: All songs and costumes must be family friendly.

Late Night at the Library: ‘80s Karaoke

(Ages 21+) Just want to have fun? Can't stop believin'? Been livin' on a prayer? Then join us for ‘80s karaoke at the library for end-of-the-week fun! Note: There will be a $5 cash fee at the door.

K-Pop Dance Party

(Ages 13–18) Calling all K-Pop fans! Come learn choreography and create K-Pop themed crafts! Bring your own photo cards and get ready to dance!

Did you know the Libraries have their own Ukulele Club? They've performed at library events and concerts at the Uptown Theater.

Ukulele Club

(Ages 8+) Participants are expected to already know basic chords and strumming for this intermediate program. Registration: Email cplemmons@gptx.org Note: See 'Ukulele Lessons' for beginner classes.

Ukulele in a Hurry

(Ages 18+) Join us for this two hour ukulele crash course where we'll learn basic chords and strumming to get you started. Bring your own ukulele or borrow one from the library. Registration: Starting June 3, email cplemmons@gptx.org with your full name and a request to borrow a ukulele if needed.

Kids Ukulele Lessons

(Ages 8+) Check out one of our ukuleles or bring your own for these beginner lessons. Registration: Starting June 24, email cplemmons@gptx.org with your child’s full name, age, and a request to borrow a ukulele if needed. Note: You must attend all three meetings.
