Trash and Recycling Schedule
The City of Grand Prairie provides trash collection to each residence twice a week. Recycling collection is on one of your regular trash days. Separate trucks pick up trash and recycling.
All trash and recycling must be set out by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day but no earlier than 8 p.m. the night before your collection day.
Effective Wednesday, April 8, Republic Services will begin collecting brush and bulk materials on a scaled back schedule. Collection trucks dedicated to collecting only brush and bulk materials will be operating on residents’ recycling day only. Regular trash crews will continue to collect only regular bagged household waste. Please keep bagged household waste separate from brush and bulk materials to assist with collection efforts.
Due to the potential risk to waste collection crews, the city’s trash provider, Republic Services, respectfully requests residents:
- Place all trash in plastic bags (not in boxes or other unsecured receptacles). Secure bags tightly to prevent the scattering of waste materials.
- Please do not bag your recycle materials, continue to place your recycle materials loosely into your recycle bins (blue bags tangle processing equipment).
The city will continue to offer once-per-month residential collection of brush and tree limbs no larger than 10 inches in diameter and no longer than 5 feet in length. Brush must be placed at the curb. City equipment cannot pick up brush from alleys. This collection does not include bagged leaves.

Use any color plastic bag for trash except blue or red.
Place all trash in plastic bags (not in boxes or other unsecured receptacles), making sure the bags are secured tightly to prevent the scattering of waste materials.
Nobody likes to get cut with broken glass or stuck with a needle and neither do our friendly trash collectors. Please follow these easy steps before setting your trash at the curb:
- Place any needles in an empty laundry detergent jug or other container before disposal.
- Wrap any broken mirror glass in newspaper and tape before placing in a trash bag or in a box marked "broken mirror."
- Place any broken bottles or jars in a cardboard box clearly marked "broken glass."
Use an 18-gallon recycling bin. Do not bag your recycle materials. Continue to place your recycle materials loosely into your recycle bins (blue bags tangle processing equipment).
See the Curbside Recycling Program for more information.
To schedule a free curbside pick-up of bulky waste items, call Grand Prairie Disposal at metro 817-261-8812. This is a free service and available weekly.
Bulky items only include old or unwanted appliances and furniture such as washers, refrigerators, sofas and chairs. Carpet, fencing, and building materials are not considered Bulky items. These items are construction and demolition wastes and can be taken to the Grand Prairie Landfill.
For the convenience of Grand Prairie residents, the City of Grand Prairie operates a Brush Pickup Program. This once-per-month service provides curbside pickup of tree limbs, brush, and firewood that are not bundled or bagged. This is for brush, tree limbs and firewood that is too large for the city's twice weekly garbage collection.
View Brush Program Information page to view your Brush Zone Schedule and County Guidelines.
To help save valuable space in our city landfill, Grand Prairie does not pick up grass clippings from your curb or alley. Between March and September, the volume of residential solid waste increases 20-50 percent because of grass clippings.
By leaving your clippings on the lawn after you mow and allowing them to work back into the soil, you can have a naturally beautiful lawn. Grass clippings also make excellent compost for gardens. Learn more about "Don't Bag It" Lawn Care Plan in Grand Prairie.
