Meet the current dogs being trained at the Dallas County Jail!
All of the dogs:
- Go through a 5-week training session and live with their trainers, handlers and caretakers in a dormitory style work camp
- Have had temperament tests and typically get along well with other dogs and people
- Are immediately available for adoption, but we ask that you wait to take them home until after their graduation
- Crate trained, house trained, and learn basic obedience
- Work on their leash skills in the program, but may need additional help after graduation
- Are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and heartworm negative
If you find a dog that you would like to adopt, please fill out our online adoption application. It only takes a few minutes, and you don't pay anything until you have met the dog and are ready to take him or her home.
Additional paperwork will need to be completed at the shelter.
Howdy, I’m Deputy Donut! I’m short, cute, and fun! I’m still a puppy and love everyone I meet. I’m always on the go in search of my next adventure. If you have a zest for life then you’ve found your perfect match! I can’t wait to see all the commands I’m going to learn in the HFH program. Are you interested in seeing what I learned in person? Bonjour, I’m Holly! I’m new to the shelter and the H4H program. I’m sweet as can be, know how to sit, and adore treats! I seem to be on the more reserved side but that’s only because everything is new to me. I’m hoping the program helps me come out of my shell more and people can see my true personality shine. Want to be best friends? Set up a meet and greet with me! I promise you'll love me.
Holly is estimated to be about a year old Pointer mix.

Sally is believed to be a 7-year-old Black Mouth Cur Mix.
Hi, I’m Sally! I’m the older one in the group at an estimated 7 years old. Don’t let that fool you, I still enjoy running and playing as long as it’s on my terms! Before coming to the jail I shared a condo with three older dogs at the shelter. We all got along perfectly and I adored their company.
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but I'm here to prove them wrong! Make sure to follow me on our social media to see all the new tricks I learn each week.
Petunia is around two-years-old and is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix.
Hiya, I’m Petunia! Most people love my underbite which they say is really cute! You can’t see it in the picture, but I will have it on full display if you decide to meet me. They say I have a sweet disposition that will make you instantly fall in love with me. I enjoy meeting new people and seems to get along with other dogs! I’m looking forward to all the new people I’ll be meeting at the Dallas County Jail. I hope the program helps me find my forever home!
