Meet the current dogs being trained at the Dallas County Jail!
All of the dogs:
- Go through a 5-week training session and live with their trainers, handlers and caretakers in a dormitory style work camp
- Have had temperament tests and typically get along well with other dogs and people
- Are immediately available for adoption, but we ask that you wait to take them home until after their graduation
- Crate trained, house trained, and learn basic obedience
- Work on their leash skills in the program, but may need additional help after graduation
- Are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and heartworm negative
If you find a dog that you would like to adopt, please fill out our online adoption application. It only takes a few minutes, and you don't pay anything until you have met the dog and are ready to take him or her home.
Additional paperwork will need to be completed at the shelter.
Sally is believed to be a 7-year-old Black Mouth Cur Mix.
Hi, I’m Sally! I’m the older one in the group at an estimated 7 years old. Don’t let that fool you, I still enjoy running and playing as long as it’s on my terms! Before coming to the jail I shared a condo with three older dogs at the shelter. We all got along perfectly and I adored their company.
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but I'm here to prove them wrong! Make sure to follow me on our social media to see all the new tricks I learn each week.
Petunia is around two-years-old and is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix.
Hiya, I’m Petunia! Most people love my underbite which they say is really cute! You can’t see it in the picture, but I will have it on full display if you decide to meet me. They say I have a sweet disposition that will make you instantly fall in love with me. I enjoy meeting new people and seems to get along with other dogs! I’m looking forward to all the new people I’ll be meeting at the Dallas County Jail. I hope the program helps me find my forever home!
Nathan is a one-year and seven-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix.
Hello, I’m Nathan! I’m a handsome boy who is full of life. I’m best described as spunky. I would do best in a home with someone with the same high energy.
I’m so excited for all the tricks I’m going to be learning in the HFH Program. Especially all the treats that are going to be involved! I’m friendly with both people and dogs. If you have any dogs at home please make sure to bring them for a meet and greet.
Nightingale is just Labrador Retriever mix just over a year old.
Hola, I’m Nightingale! I’m a beautiful girl who has a personality to match. I enjoy playing with humans and dogs alike! I also like pets and cuddles. You can always count on my loyalty and company! I can’t wait to start my training at the Dallas County Jail. I will be training there for five weeks but you can still meet me if you are interested in adopting me. I hope you are because I‘m really interested in meeting you!
Rosey is around nine-months-old and is an American Pit Bull Terrier mix.
Bonjour! I’m Rosie! I’m full of energy and enjoy being the center of attention. I’m still a puppy which means I love playtime but don’t worry, I also enjoy cuddles! I’m a really cute, happy go lucky girl who can’t wait to meet you. Please be sure to bring some treats with you when you come to meet me, I absolutely adored them, especially the bacon-flavored kind.
Meet the graduate hounds of the Home for Hounds program! These hounds have completed basic training with the inmates of Dallas County Jail. They have learned commands such as "sit" and "shake", and are also kennel trained. The dogs are healthy and ready to be adopted!
Hola! I'm Bella. I may be three, but I sure don't act like it. I love hanging out with the youngins. I love playing outside just as much as I love cuddle time inside. I seem to get along well with other dogs... but not cats. I don't like cats! I am housetrained... #AdoptionPoints. But I don't like to be bored in the backyard, so I can chew through a fence. (Sorry, not sorry.) I would do best in a home with someone to keep me company and take me on car rides. I love those!
Bella is believed to be a Border Collie/German Shepherd and is three years old.
