Meet the current dogs being trained at the Dallas County Jail!
All of the dogs:
- Go through a 5-week training session and live with their trainers, handlers and caretakers in a dormitory style work camp
- Have had temperament tests and typically get along well with other dogs and people
- Are immediately available for adoption, but we ask that you wait to take them home until after their graduation
- Crate trained, house trained, and learn basic obedience
- Work on their leash skills in the program, but may need additional help after graduation
- Are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and heartworm negative
If you find a dog that you would like to adopt, please fill out our online adoption application. It only takes a few minutes, and you don't pay anything until you have met the dog and are ready to take him or her home.
Additional paperwork will need to be completed at the shelter.
There are currently no hounds in training.
Meet the graduate hounds of the Home for Hounds program! These hounds have completed basic training with the inmates of Dallas County Jail. They have learned commands such as "sit" and "shake", and are also kennel trained. The dogs are healthy and ready to be adopted!
This sweet girl has beautiful caramel markings and a funny personality that is sure to catch your eye. Zoey is a 1yr mix breed that adores both her two- and four-legged companions. Although shy at first, Zoey does well with people of all sizes (even kiddos!) and was particularly attached to the men in her previous household. She loves playing outside with her doggie pals and will happily bunny hop and “talk” to them to make sure they are playing by the rules. Throw a sprinkler in the mix and she is in heaven! All this girl really needs is a family to call her own…and maybe a peanut butter cookie or two.
This handsome guy is a 10-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who loves people and all who are around him. This fun-loving and easy-going boy is very well-behaved and loves to go on long walks. Available for adoption March 23.
This boy is a striking 9-month-old Australian Cattle Dog mix who has a sweet and friendly personality that is sure to brighten your day. Bronco absolutely loves to play and is bound to be your best friend! Available for adoption March 23.
This girl is a beautiful 1-year and 4-month Staffordshire mix and has a sparkling personality that shines bright. Creamsicle found a foster home after three long months of waiting at the shelter and quickly made herself at home. She got along with and made friends with all of her foster family and found particular adoration for her foster home. While there, she displayed her ability to learn tricks as she quickly caught on to house-training, how to sit, and barely barks. In addition to being able to put a smile on anyone’s face, this food-motivated pup loves to cuddle, go on walks and eat. Available for adoption March 23.
