Black History Month

The Grand Prairie Main Library hosts programs  for all ages in recognition of Black History Month. 2024's theme is "African Americans and the Arts", and our free programs will let you explore art, music and dance.  The Main Library is located at 901 Conover Dr. in Grand Prairie.

 

Culture Kids: Notable African American Artists

Wednesday, February 7 at 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm. Main Library. 

Kids in grades 1-5 learn and explore through art.  First come, first served. Supplies are limited. For grades 1-5.


Crafting Corner: Harlem Renaissance Wooden Collage Art

Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 1 pm. Main Library.

Come and create art or learn a new craft at the library. Bring friends and have fun creating. Registration: Email jrudd@gptx.org


Jazz Dance Pop-Up Class 

Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 pm, Main Library.

Release stress and boost self-confidence in our jazz pop-up dance class. No dance experience required. Registration: Email aholstead@gptx.org. (Ages 15+)


Night at the Museum: Black Voices in Art

Wednesday, Feb. 28. from 5:30 pm to 7 p.m. Main Library.

Come enjoy a pop-up, come-and-go art gallery at the library featuring a mixture of art experiences and activities highlighting artists in the community. Note: Email Josh at jrudd@gptx.org for questions or to showcase your artwork


Bandan Koro: African Drum & Dance Ensemble

Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 pm, Main Library.

Experience the delightful sounds of Africa while moving your body to the beat during this incredible performance, which highlights the beauty of African dance, music and history.

The History and Perspective of the African- American Experience in Grand Prairie: From Then till Now

For the first time in Grand Prairie’s 150+ year history, this book pulls together and documents the history of the African-American history in Grand Prairie.
