Summer Reading Club

Adventure Begins at Your Library!

The Grand Prairie Libraries invite readers of all ages to attend great programs, have fun, and earn prizes as they read throughout the summer. Our Summer Reading Club runs from June 1 through August 31.

We start things off June 1, with a Magical Library Quest Kickoff Celebration at the Main Library. Join us between 10 am and noon for a day of mystical wonders with bounce castles, fantastic crafts and activities along with play spaces for designated ages and a community art project.

Friday programs

Join us each Friday at your local branch for our special Friday children’s performances! Kids will enjoy a petting zoo, a Karate Dance Party, a unicorn show, and many more! Our Friday programs happen at each branch:

  • Warmack Library – 10:30 am
  • Main Library – 1 pm
  • Shotwell Library – 3:30 pm

See the full schedule of Friday programs  here.

Summer Nights

Join us for family-friendly evening programs. Learn more about Summer Nights.

Reading Logs

Pick up a reading log at any library, and track your read hours. You need to read for a total of 5 hours to complete a reading log. Once a log is complete, turn it in at any of our three libraries! As you reach your reading milestones, you’ll earn rewards! For children, these can include trinkets, small toys, or coupons to local Grand Prairie businesses. For Teens and Adults, completed logs count as entries into our monthly drawings and grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. Tip: attending any library program counts as one hour!

We love to see our community excited about reading and having fun at the library! Share your adventures with us on social media using the hashtag #GPTXLibraryAdventures.
