Grand Prairie Welcomes New Public Works Director
Gabe Johnson joins Grand Prairie after serving as Director of Engineering and Public Works for the City of Celina.
Gabe Johnson will join the City of Grand Prairie as Public Works Director on March 19, 2018. Johnson has 17 years of professional experience as a Civil Engineer and comes to the City of Grand Prairie after serving as Director of Engineering and Public Works for the City of Celina. Prior to working in Celina, he worked four years as Stormwater Utility Manager and Floodplain Administrator for the City of Grand Prairie, and was Project Engineer and Manager of Water Resources at Freese and Nichols, Inc. for 10 years. Johnson replaces Ron McCuller, who is retiring as Public Works Director after 21 years with the City of Grand Prairie.
In Celina, Johnson’s projects included water and sewer improvements, Preston Road widening and utility relocations, Dallas North Tollway feeder road expansion, a city fire station, the city's GIS network and various street overlay projects.
Johnson is a Professional Engineer in Texas, Professional Hydrologist, Certified Floodplain Manager and a Geographic Information Systems Professional. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Hydrology and Water Resources from Tarleton State University, where he was inducted into the Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame. He has received awards for Director of the Year from the Celina Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Floodplain Management Association.
He and his wife, Amy, have three children, ages 12, 10 and 8. In his spare time, he is a youth coach and helps with school activities.
