Grand Prairie Farmers Market Voted No. 1 in Texas, Top 10 Nationally for 3rd Year
American Farmland Trust’s annual survey called on shoppers to identify the best of America’s farmers markets.
Grand Prairie Farmers Market has been voted by the public as the No. 1 farmers market in Texas and 7th in the nation in this year’s “Farmers Market Celebration” contest by American Farmland Trust. This marks the third year Grand Prairie has been voted No. 1 in the state of Texas and top 10 nationally.
What you put on your fork matters. That’s the message behind American Farmland Trust’s annual Farmers Market Celebration. The celebration calls on shoppers to help identify the best of America’s farmers markets. The summer-long event launched in June and concluded on September 22, 2017. The public voted online for their favorite and Grand Prairie has been in the running for the top market each year since 2012.
"The Celebration encourages market customers, family farmers, community activists – anyone who believes they’ve got the best farmers market in the country – to endorse their market in four special areas: Focus on Farmers, Healthy Food for All, Pillar of the Community, and Champion for the Environment," said Susan Sink, Vice President of Development and External Relations.
The Grand Prairie Farmers Market, which is managed by the City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department, has been consistently marketing and promoting the market with special events every Saturday during the season, frequent social media content, and encouraging patrons, vendors, and citizens to join in on helping promote the city’s local market located downtown.
"We are thankful for the participation and excitement from our city departments and citizens in helping promote, take pride, and visit our award-winning farmers market," Brandon Huether, Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Parks, Arts & Recreation Department, said. "This yearly competition proves we have one of the best markets and helps bring more national recognition to the services we provide within our city and what a great crown jewel we have in the downtown area."
