I-30 Art Project

Post Date:03/13/2014
The city of Grand Prairie is collaborating with local artist Pamela Summers to create tile art on a retaining wall owned by the City on NE 15th Street. The retaining wall is visible from I-30.

The tile artwork created by Summers will have a prairie theme. The $185,000 art project is funded by an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and donations from the Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corporation. The purpose of the Our Town grant program is to improve communities through art and creative placemaking.

The Our Town grant will allow 10 participants in Grand Prairie’s Weed & Seed Job Training Program to receive training and support from the artist, the Association of Grand Prairie Artists, the Grand Prairie Arts Council, Five Star Flooring and the Tile Contractors Association of America to become Certified Thinset Commercial Tile Installers.

The installation of the tile artwork is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2014.
