New City Hall Open
The first phase of the new City Hall building in downtown Grand Prairie is now open...
Visitors to Grand Prairie’s City Municipal Complex will be greeted with a new City Hall entrance this January. The first phase of a new 30,500-square-foot two-story building between the Development Center and City Hall is now complete, and easily accessible from Main Street. The $15 million addition, City Hall Central, connects the existing City Hall with the city’s Development Center, and was constructed to:
- Increase building security
- Consolidate city offices to increase work efficiency among departments and ease of way finding for visitors
- Address structural challenges in nearly century-old city buildings
Safety features in the City Hall Central building include bullet-resistant glass, Kevlar walls and a secure front desk for visitor check-in. A sound masking system in the ceiling of both floors creates white noise enabling employees to work more effectively in an open environment, and multiple meeting rooms feature state-of-the-art audio/video conferencing systems to accommodate the many meetings required to develop and operate our growing city. An outdoor rain garden captures stormwater using three large pipes that drain into the garden benefiting the landscape and water table. The official new address for all portions of the City Hall building is 300 W. Main St.
