Childcare Family Home Permit

Step 1.Review Requirements

Permit requirements for Registered Childcare Family Homes include (but are not limited to):

• All registered child care homes caring for any number of unrelated children must have a City of Grand Prairie permit.
• All registered family homes caring for more than 3 unrelated children must also register with the Texas Department of Protective & Regulatory Services, 214-583-4253 or 817-321-8000.
• All homes caring for 3 or less unrelated children must be listed with Texas Department of Protective & Regulatory Services, 214-583-4253 or 1-817-321-8000.
• Written permission from apartment complex or mobile home communities must be submitted with application. Only ground floor apartments will be permitted. 
• The applicant is responsible for complying with Texas Department of Protective & Regulatory Services Minimum Standards for Registered Childcare Homes.

Step 2.Apply

Submit a paper copy of the Registered Family Home Permit Application(PDF, 191KB) in person to the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department.

What happens next?

After completing the online application, allow about 48 hours for processing applications. City staff will contact you once the application is received and reviewed with information on any fees due and next steps.
