Flight of the Monarch Celebration
Posted Date: 9/1/2014

Grand Prairie will celebrate the annual migration of the monarch butterfly from North America to Central Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Central Park, State Highway 161 between Arkansas Lane and Warrior Trail.

This free event will include three Monarch butterfly releases, kite flying, bumper boats, chalk artist, a kid zone with bounce houses and children crafts, vendors, food, a butterfly costume contest and live music.

Vocal Trash, described as "Glee Meets Stomp," is a green minded ensemble that delights audiences, globally, on a relentless pursuit to bring people together utilizing the universal language of song and dance. Lucas Miller, recognized as an "American Masterpiece" by the National Endowment for the Arts, will also perform. Miller blends music, puppetry, projected images, and "zoological, stand-up comedy" to teach about monarch butterflies, wetlands, animal defenses, endangered species, symbiosis, and other nature-related topics.
