Grand Prairie Libraries Present Superhero Day

Grand Prairie Libraries have partnered with Cosmic Comics & Cards to celebrate National Free Comic Book Day in their own way! Swoop into your nearest Grand Prairie Library for Superhero Day Saturday, May 3, 2014, honoring superheroes, and the art and history of graphic novels. Dress in your favorite superhero costume for photos, comic book giveaways and more. Event hours vary upon library.

Children (youth younger than 9)
Take pictures with a superhero, check out the new Easy Reader collections, take home a free book and be a super reader at Betty Warmack and Shotwell Branch Library. Children are also invited to the Main Library for a craft and popular animated movie at 1 p.m. Comic book giveaways will take place the entire day.

Tweens and Teens (youth older than 10)
Betty Warmack and Shotwell Branch Libraries will feature a Superhero and Supervillain Workshop with author and illustrator Jeramey Kraatz. Kraatz will discuss his Cloak Society series and lead a hands-on workshop where participants can create their own superheroes and villains. The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. at the Warmack branch and at 2 p.m. at the Shotwell Branch.

No registration is required, but space is limited. Arrive early to reserve your seat. Giveaways and crafts available while supplies last. For more information call 972-237-5700.

Hours: Saturday, May 3: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
10 a.m. – Superhero and Supervillain Workshop (ages 10 and older) with author and illustrator Jeramey Kraatz. Kraatz will discuss his Cloak Society series and lead a hands-on workshop where participants can create their own superheroes and villains.
1-3 p.m. – Superhero/ Super Reader Day (ages nine and younger): Take pictures with a superhero, check out the new Easy Reader collections, take home a free book and be a super reader.

Tony Shotwell Branch Library

Hours: Saturday, May 3: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Photos and Crafts
