Grand Prairie Airport Event Features Free Airplane Rides for Youth

GRAND PRAIRIE – A Young Eagles Rally, sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), will take place Saturday, March 22, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Aviator Air at Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, 3122 S. Great Southwest Parkway. In honor of the event, Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen has proclaimed March 22, 2014 Young Eagles Day.

The Young Eagles Rally allows youth, ages 8-17, to accompany pilots on a free, 20-minute flight in a general aviation airplane. Twenty-two pilots will be at the event with their aircraft. Employees from Lockheed will be onsite to talk about careers in aviation, and students can view helicopters on display as well as remote airplane demonstrations. Wally Funk, one of the 25 women in the Mercury 13 space program, will also be at the event.

An estimated 100 children are signed up to fly in the event. The public is welcome to come to the airport to watch. For more information, call Michelle Daniel, 817-718-6995 or email her at mpdaniel@prodigy.net.
