OCTOBER FRIGHTS AND FESTIVITIES IN GRAND PRAIRIE

GRAND PRAIRIE – Grand Prairie is scaring up some fun during the entire month of October. The following list includes frights and festivities for all ages.

Tuesday, Oct. 8- Nov. 1, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Green Meadows Petting Farm, Lynn Creek Park, 5700 Lake Ridge Parkway. Admission is $12 for ages two and up, free for children one and under. For group rates visit www.greenmeadowsevents.com 
 
Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 11- 26 and Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m., Ripley’s Nightmare at the Wax Museum, 601 E. Palace Parkway. The Asylum of Fear, open year round, will have some special surprises and clowns popping up in unsuspecting places. Visit www.ripleys.com/grandprairie
 
Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Harvest Fair at Market Square, 120 W. Main St. Harvest Fair will feature food trucks, roasted corn, sausage on a stick, brats, sauerkraut, beer garden, Polka band, “take your own” harvest photos and games, including pumpkin bowling, turkey toss, face painting, mini-pumpkin decorating and a bounce house. Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 a.m., 27th Annual Pumpkin Run presented by the Grand Prairie Metro Rotary Club, at Lynn Creek Park, 5700 Lake Ridge Parkway. The 1-mile Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. and 10K and 5K run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. For more information visit www.pumpkinrun.us 
 
Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 29-20 and Oct. 26-27 at 2 p.m., Little Shop of Horrors presented by the Grand Prairie Arts Council, Uptown Theater, 120 E. Main St. A spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies. Not appropriate for younger children. Purchase tickets at www.artsgp.org  or call 972-237-8786.
 
Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 18-Oct. 26, from Dusk until 11 p.m., Forest of Fear, at Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake, 3401 Ragland Road. Free hayrides will tour haunted campsites. Vehicle admission is $10. To reserve a campsite visit www.loydpark.com or call 972-237-4120.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m., Pumpkin Craze at Market Square, 120 W. Main St. Come enjoy pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pancakes, games, a gift market and “take your own” harvest photos. Visit www.gptx.org/farmersmarket 
 
Friday, Oct. 25, 6-8 p.m., Halloween Community Carnival, Charley Taylor Recreation Center, 601 E. Grand Prairie Road. This free event will feature bounce houses, games, candy and lots of fun. Call 972-264-6890.
 
Friday, Oct. 25, 5-7 p.m., Trick or Trail at Tony Shotwell Life Center (formerly
Bowles Life Center),
2750 Graham St. Trick or Treat along Bowles Park Trail and enjoy a haunted house and games inside the recreation center. Free. Call 972-237-7529.

Saturday, October 26, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m., Monster Mash at Market Square, 120 W. Main St., featuring pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, pumpkin patch, a bounce house, face paining and costume contest, visit www.gptx.org/farmersmarket

Saturday, Oct. 26, 1-3 p.m., Kirby Creek Pumpkin Swim, Kirby Creek Natatorium, 3201 Corn Valley Road. Jump in and swim with hundreds of pumpkins in our heated indoor pool. Pick out your favorite and take it home. The cost is $3 per person. Limit one pumpkin per swimmer. Call 972-264-8258.
 
Sunday, Oct. 27, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Haunted Hallway presented by “La Z” Radio, Traders Village, 2602 Mayfied Road. Bring the kids for a day full of ghostly fun featuring a haunted house, pumpkin patch and lots of candy. Parking is $3 per vehicle and admission is free. For more information, call 972-647-2331.
 
Monday, Oct. 28, 7 p.m., Grand Prairie Main Library, 901 Conover Drive. Meet Rita Cook, author of Haunted Fort Worth and Haunted Dallas. Rita has authored more than 1,000 articles on various topics. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m., Grand Prairie Main Library, 901 Conover Drive. Meet Mitchel Whitington, author of Ghosts of North Texas, and Ghosts of East Texas, and editor of anthologies like Haunted Encounters. Mitchel is an author, editor, publisher, and public speaker. Thursday, Oct. 31, 5:30-10:30 p.m., Terror at the Uptown, Uptown Theater, 120 E. Main St. Come downtown for a good old-fashioned scare. Entrance fee is $5 per person.
