Q: What are the more common violations reported?
A:
  • High grass and weeds.
  • Trash, junk and debris.
  • Inoperable vehicles.
  • Front yard parking.
  • Substandard wood screen fences.
  • Trash out early or trash out late
Q: Do I have to identify myself when reporting a violation?
A:
No. However, Code Enforcement would like to follow-up or answer any further concerns you may have. Your name will remain anonymous.
Q: How do I report a code violation?
A:
You can report a code violation 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 972-237-8296 or submit a complaint online.
Q: How long will it take to get my complaint resolved?
A:
A Code Enforcement officer will respond to your complaint within 72 hours after receiving the complaint. Compliance times vary; however, most code violations require 24 hours to ten (10) days for compliance.
Q: I turned in a complaint six months ago and the violation is still there. Why?
A:
Frequently, code violators refuse to comply within the time frame required. Code Enforcement proceeds to issue Class C Misdemeanor citation(s) for non-compliance until compliance is obtained.
Q: Who is the Code Enforcement officer for my neighborhood and how do I contact that person?
A:
The Code Enforcement Division employs nine (9) Code Enforcement officers with (2) two Field Supervisors. The City of Grand Prairie is divided into nine sectors for each of the nine officers with one officer specializing in illegal dumping and substandard structures and another officer specializing in Auto Related Business(s). You can contact the Code Enforcement Division to determine which officer has your area.
Q: My landlord will not repair my home or apartment. What can I do?
A:
Contact our Code Division and we will schedule a Code Enforcement officer to make an observation of the conditions then contact the homeowner or management company to correct the identified code violations.
Q: What are your hours of operation?
A:
We are open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Additionally, we have code officers working weekends in the field on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We also schedule special evening time enforcement during the week days to address problem areas.
Q: I want to clean up my neighborhood. What can I do to help?
A:
Contact our office. Let us help you form a neighborhood group to assist. With Code Enforcement and Keep Texas Beautiful staff members, we can develop a strategy that will have a longstanding affect on the beautification of the community.
