Pets at the Prairie Paws Adoption Center
One of the primary goals of Animal Services is to place as many pets as possible into quality homes with responsible owners. Responsible ownership includes spaying and neutering, vaccinating for rabies and other diseases, and making sure the animal is wearing a collar with an identification tag at all times.
City code requires that all animals adopted from the Grand Prairie Animal Services Center be vaccinated for rabies and spayed or neutered. Cats, dogs, and other animals come to the Prairie Paws Adoption Center from a wide variety of backgrounds. Frequently their health and vaccination history is unknown to us as is whether or not they’ve been sterilized (scars can fade). Your first responsibility as a new adopter is to take your new furry friend to a veterinarian as soon as possible (by this we mean a day or two later – not longer). Because of limitations in space, time, and funding, we make no guarantees as to the health of animals that are adopted from us. We will not pay for veterinary treatment. Should you wish to return your animal for a refund for health reasons, you must do so within two weeks of its adoption date. Remember, it is up to you to take your pet to a veterinarian for a health evaluation and pay the related costs.

Adoptions are $70.00. The fee includes microchipping and a $50.00 spay/neuter coupon, or if the animal is already ‘fixed’, the $50.00 is good for other medical care.
