The city of Grand Prairie’s soon-to-open Summit Adult Activity Center is accepting membership applications!
The $22 million, 60,000-square-foot Summit, at Warrior Trail and SH 161, offers a huge fitness center, cardio equipment, weights, a ballroom, 100-seat theater, classrooms, basketball court, 1/10 mile indoor track, aerobics room, teaching kitchen, game room, café, wine bar and a salt-water aquatic center with a resistance vortex, lap swim and spa. The facility overlooks the lakes of the city’s new Central Park.
“The Summit is unlike any other city active adult center in the nation,” said Summit Manager Linda Long. “Our primary target audience is Grand Prairie residents of at least age 50 and already 1,000 of those have joined. The Summit is going to be so nice that we’ve gotten numerous requests to open the membership up to people who do not live in Grand Prairie, and we’re pleased to be able to do this on a limited basis.”
Grand Prairie residents age 50-64 may join for $200 a year and Grand Prairie residents age 65+ may join for $50 a year. Grand Prairie voters made this facility possible through a 1/8 cent sales tax voted on in May 2007. The Summit will open in May 2010.
