Looking for a local excursion? Join us at the Grand Prairie Main Library, 901 Conover Dr., and "Ride the Rails of Texas," during their free lecture and exhibit at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
This event will include details about railway museums, excursion trains and depots around the state. The exhibit will feature items of railroad history including signal lanterns, dining-car china, passenger tickets, photos and more. The display is part of the personal collection of Rollin Phipps, a teacher and administrator of U.T. Arlington.
Grand Prairie resident Phipps offers entertainment for all ages and interests. His lecture on the "Golden Age of Railroads in Texas," describes the importance of the railway system and the industrial and economic opportunities it provided across the state.
This program is part of "Literary Elements," an adult summer reading program. Participants of this program earn the chance to win a Kindle Fire. A grand prize winner will be drawn for each of the three libraries at the end of the summer.
