Flight of the Monarch

Grand Prairie will celebrate the annual migration of the monarch butterfly from North America to Central Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 2 p.m. at Central Park, State Highway 161 between Arkansas Lane and Warrior Trail.  This free event will include two monarch butterfly releases at 12:00 p.m. and 2 p.m., kite flying, a kid zone with bounce houses and children crafts, vendors, food, a butterfly costume contest and music by Lucas Miller, recognized as an “American Masterpiece” by the National Endowment for the Arts.  He blends music, puppetry, projected images, and “zoological, stand-up comedy” to teach about monarch butterflies, wetlands, animal defenses, endangered species, symbiosis and other nature-related topics.
