Planning and Development oversees the zoning, platting, permitting, construction, and modification of land use, facility development, and reuse of land parcels within the City limits of the City of Grand Prairie A staff of 63 people in six divisions regulates and facilitates development city-wide.
The
Planning Division is responsible for long-range planning, zoning, documentation of demographic trends, development strategy, and processing of zoning/platting requests.
The
Building Inspection Division oversees the construction of public and private facilities to ensure safety and compliance with national, state and local building codes.
The
Code Enforcement Division also ensures safety and compliance with existing ordinances related to maintenance and management of property.
The
Engineering Services Division designs and surveys capital projects, provides engineering consultant services to citizens and other staff members; inspects construction work completed by the city and developer contractors to insure accordance with approved plans and specifications; reviews plans and specifications prepared by developer's engineers for compliance with city standards; and administers the Floodplain Management Program.
The street lights program pays for all approved street lights maintained by TXU Electric in the City.
