President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension and

State Highway 161 Frontage Roads

The Bush Turnpike Western Extension provides an 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled main lanes, known as the Western Extension, and the frontage roads, which are referenced as State Highway 161. The new corridor features cashless tolling on the main lanes in each direction between just north of I-30 south to I-20.

The entire toll road consists of four phases plus a section of work at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at Main and Jefferson streets in Grand Prairie.

Phases 1-3 of Western Extension opened to traffic in 2009 and 2010 under the direction of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Phase 4 of the Western Extension of the Bush Turnpike, which extends from I-30 to I-20, opened to traffic in October 2012. The SH 161 frontage road at grade railroad crossings between Main and Jefferson streets in Grand Prairie are scheduled to open in late April 2013
