The public is invited to attend the Annual Police Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Grand Prairie Police and Fire Public Safety Building, 1525 Arkansas Lane, honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Officer Lyndon F. King
End of Watch: March 1, 1982

Officer Lyndon F. King began his career as a Reserve Officer in 1973. He became a full time officer on July 7, 1976. On March 1, 1982, he became the first Grand Prairie Police Officer to be killed in the line of duty. Officer King was investigating an accident on I-30 near the NW 7th Street overpass. He was killed in an accident when drunk driver struck his squad car from the rear, sending it into a spin, striking Officer King. Officer King is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and his son, Michael, who was 18 months old at the time of his line of duty death.

Sergeant Gregory L. Hunter
End of Watch: June 18, 2004

Sergeant Gregory L. Hunter began his law enforcement career with the Grand Prairie Police Department on Jan. 4, 1973. He was the city’s first African-American Officer to be commissioned by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. On Friday, June 18, 2004, Sergeant Hunter was mortally wounded while he and Officer Bruce Seix investigated a suspicious vehicle at Wal-Mart. Sergeant Hunter was ambushed by the suspect who opened fire as he emerged from behind a curtain inside his van. Sergeant Hunter is survived by his wife, Denise, and their daughter, Erin, mother, sister, aunt and a host of other family members.
