Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Parade, Essay Contest

The Grand Prairie NAACP Branch invites the community to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. The parade starts at 10 a.m. in front of City Hall, 317 College St., at the Liberty Bell, and will end at David Daniels Elementary School, 801 SW 19th St. To register your groups to be in the parade, complete parade entry form before Jan. 15. The MLK Planning Committee, including the City of Grand Prairie, Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Grand Prairie Independent School District, NAACP Grand Prairie Branch, community, private and government entities, is sponsoring an essay contest for students relating to the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The theme will focus attention on the past, current and future issues related to civil and human rights as experienced by Texans.

To enter the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Essay Contest, submit essay entry form by Jan. 7.
