Grand Prairie’s Uptown Theater Show Features 1920s Jazz and Blues

GRAND PRAIRIE – Texas Family Musicals presents His Eye is on the Sparrow, Saturday, April 12, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Grand Prairie’s Uptown Theater, 120 E. Main St.

Starring Jen Percival, one of New York’s brightest young stars, His Eye is on the Sparrow is a powerful musical drama based on the tale of Ethel Waters’ early life on Clifton Street in Philadelphia. The show features music from the early 1920s performed in blues and jazz venues like the legendary Cotton Club. Percival belts out uplifting gospel spirituals Waters learned in her youth and the show features more than 15 songs from Frankie and Johnnie and the 1933 Rudy Vallee/Hoagie Carmichael classic, Old Man Harlem. Waters learns that it is never too late for redemption and to have a life full of happiness and purpose.

Tickets are on sale now and are $20-$35 and can be purchased at www.uptowntheatergp.com or by calling 972-237-8786.
