Swimming Pool and Spa Permit
If you intend to operate or build a public swimming pool or spa in the City of Grand Prairie, a permit is required. Public wading pools and spray parks also require a permit.
What is required?
For Change of Ownership
-
A completed application for a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) from the Department of Building Inspections.

A completed Swimming Pool / Spa permit application.
-
Applicable fees.
-
A letter from a licensed electrician stating that the pool / spa wet niche fixtures are properly grounded and in good repair.
-
Completed and notarized Owner Verification form.

Copy of Certified Swimming Pool Operator Certificate.

RPZ in fill lines in swimming pools or spas must be tested by the City of Grand Prairie. A copy of cross connection inspection report must be available to the inspector at the time of the final inspection.

A complete inspection, including water chemistry, fencing, working emergency telephone or emergency summoning device, signage, etc.

All requirements are to be satisfied at the time of the final inspection before the swimming pool and / or spa will be allowed to open.

New Swimming Pool / Spa or Extensive Remodeling

A completed application for a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) from the Department of Building Inspections.

A completed Swimming Pool / Spa permit application.

Applicable fees.

Prior to beginning the construction of a new public swimming pool/spa or the extensive remodeling of an existing public swimming pool/spa, the owner shall submit plans and specifications for such construction or remodeling to Building Inspections and the Environmental Quality Division for review. The plans and specifications must indicate the following:

Plan of entire project site/tract map

Plot plan, deck detail and pool enclosure (including gate detail and fence panels)

Plumbing detail including gauges and pipe diameter etc.

Pool/Spa structure details
-
Depth markers
-
Lights
-
Skimmers
-
Coping
-
Fill line and/or applicable hose bibs

Equipment list (including make and model number)
-
Safety equipment and signs
-
The plans and specifications shall be submitted and stamped with the seal of a professional engineer.

A pre-construction letter stamped by the engineer shall also be submitted with the plans for review.

A copy of the plans and specifications and the plan review checklist must be kept at the site during the time of construction

Required Construction Inspections
- Pre-Gunite Inspection
- Verification of proper VGB (Virginia Graeme Baker Act) drains and skimmer installations per approved plans.
- Pre Plaster Inspection
- Verification of proper step, tile, and depth markings per approved plans
- Final Inspection

THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY WILL BE RELEASED AFTER ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.
