Prescription Drug Program
Prescription drug costs are one of the fastest increasing costs that the City and nation faces. They make up almost $1,000,000 of the city's claim costs each year. Because both you and the city pay part of that cost, it is important that you understand the basics of how your prescription plan works so that you make good choices when utilizing this benefit. This will make you a smarter consumer and can reduce your out-of-pocket costs and the cost to the plan.
Local Pharmacy Benefit: Use this benefit to purchase a short-term or single 30-day prescription at a network pharmacy in your area such as Albertson's, Tom Thumb, CVS, etc. To see if a particular pharmacy is in the network, check http://www.myuhc.com/prescriptions.
Mail-Order Benefit: United Health Care offers a convenient and cost-effective way to get your prescriptions delivered right to your home through the Home Delivery Pharmacy. Your home delivery benefit allows you to receive up to a 90-day (3 month) supply for only two times your regular local pharmacy copay, so you save one month’s cost every time you order. Plus, standard shipping is free!
To start home delivery, go to http://www.myuhc.com/prescriptions or call 1-877-START MAIL (1-877-782-7862) toll free with your United Health Care member number and prescription information. After the initial prescription is filled, you can order refills quickly and easily online or through the member services number on your card.
Each year, you will have to meet a deductible on each family member (up to 3 max) on prescription benefits before the copayment amount on prescriptions is activated for that member. The prescription deductible varies by plan.
