Life Insurance
Life insurance is an important part of the benefit basics for your family. It protects them from some of the financial problems they would face if you die. Dependent life insurance provides similar protection if another family member dies.
Basic Life Insurance
As a full-time or regular part-time employee of the City, budgeted to work 30 hours or more per week, the City provides you with life insurance coverage of 2x your annual base pay.
The City offers optional employee and dependent life insurance. And, if you sign up during this initial enrollment opportunity, you won't have to prove you're in good health to get up to $250,000 in optional coverage. Any increases will require proof of good health, and could be denied in the future.
AD&D is not part of your basic benefit. If you want this protection, it must be elected.
Basic AD&D Insurance
Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage can be purchased and added to your Basic Life benefit. Basic AD&D pays an additional benefit of 2x your salary. If you are severely injured in an accident, AD&D pays benefits based on the nature of your injury in accordance with the guidelines outlined in that plan. Basic AD&D may be purchased for $.03 per $1,000 of coverage.
During annual enrollment, any elections to increase your coverage option for employee optional life or spouse life require you to complete a questionnaire on your health. This is reviewed by the carrier and is either approved or denied. Coverage is not changed until approved.
