Bereavement Leave and Special Leave

The City of Grand Prairie offers paid bereavement leave and special leave not chargeable to sick leave or vacation.

Bereavement leave with pay may be granted at the discretion of the Department Manager for a death of an employee’s relative or to attend a funeral of a relative.

Special leave of absence with pay may be granted upon approval of the Division or Department Manager for the amount of time required to:

- Make a blood donation.

- Take an examination administered by the City of Grand Prairie.

- Take a physical examination required by the City of Grand Prairie.

- Vote in city, state, national or special elections. 

- Report for preliminary interview prior to induction into military service.
