The Grand Prairie Historical Commission honored citizens during its annual awards reception on March 26.

Congratulations to this year's award winners:

Goodwin Award

Presented for outstanding contributions to Grand Prairie historical preservation

by individuals.

• Brian Bingham - for considerable and consistent efforts to publish Historical Organization Newsletter.
• Edward Gray - for bringing forward Steen's Motel for a historic marker and donating to city a rotary pay phone, commemorating the last remaining operational rotary pay phone in Texas, which is at the Steen's Motel.
• Durwood A. Sutton - Lifetime Achievement Posthumously for a lifetime of contributions to Grand Prairie as a businessman, civic leader, family man and friend

Dechman Award

Presented for outstanding contributions to Grand Prairie historical preservation

by organizations or businesses.

• GPISD Board of Trustees - for commemorating history makers through the naming of schools and facilities
• Grand Prairie AirHogs Baseball Team - for celebrating Grand Prairie's aviation history through name, architecture, art and nomenclature.
