Recycling During the Holidays
When decorating and gift wrapping during the holidays, please make sure to include only recyclable items in your recycling bin.
Allowed in Recycling Bin: Wrapping paper and holiday cards with nothing else attached, are recyclable.
Not Allowed in Recycling Bin:
- Wrapping paper and holiday cards that have any amount of plastic, foil, glitter, strings, or wire attached, and cards that play music or sounds (which means they contain a battery and miniature electronics), are not recyclable.
- Holiday lights, extension cords, trees*/wreaths/needles or any holiday decorations are not recyclable and should not be put in recycling bins.
*Christmas Tree Recycling
Drop off your tree for recycling Dec. 26-Jan. 14 at any of these locations:
- Charley Taylor Recreation Center, 601 E. Grand Prairie Rd.
- Parkhill Park, 5100 Block of S. Robinson Rd.
- Grand Prairie Landfill, 1102 MacArthur Blvd.
(Remove all ornaments, stands and plastic bags. Artificial trees or trees sprayed with artificial snow cannot be accepted for recycling.)
Acceptable trees will be recycled into mulch. Free mulch is available at the landfill to all Grand Prairie residents.
Trees may also be left at curbside on your normal garbage collection day. However, these trees will not be recycled into mulch and will be collected as garbage. For more information, call 972-237-4566.
Recycling Holiday Schedule
There will be no recycling or garbage collection on Friday, Dec. 25, or Friday, Jan. 1. There will be a special recycling collection for Friday residential recycling customers on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015. Please place recycling on the curb by 7 a.m.

If you are not eligible for the curbside recycling program, you can still recycle in Grand Prairie! Look up a recycling drop-off station near you.
Recycling at Your School
The city of Grand Prairie provides educational opportunities for area schools so that students can learn about the value of recycling.
The Kirby Creek Nature Center’s Exhibition Garden is a collaborative effort of the City of Grand Prairie and the Grand Prairie ISD. Kids work with an onsite environmental science instructor to learn about nature. Every student in the district comes out to the garden at least one time in a year.
Recycling at the Landfill
Grand Prairie residents or businesses may visit the Landfill, 1102 MacArthur Blvd., to recycle items such as metals, wood/brush, concrete, tires, electronics and aluminum.

- ReUSE items
