Recycling During the Holidays

When decorating and gift wrapping during the holidays, please make sure to include only recyclable items in your recycling bin.

Allowed in Recycling Bin: Wrapping paper and holiday cards with nothing else attached, are recyclable.

Not Allowed in Recycling Bin:

  • Wrapping paper and holiday cards that have any amount of plastic, foil, glitter, strings, or wire attached, and cards that play music or sounds (which means they contain a battery and miniature electronics), are not recyclable.
  • Holiday lights, extension cords, trees*/wreaths/needles or any holiday decorations are not recyclable and should not be put in recycling bins.

*Drop off your tree for recycling Dec. 26-Jan. 14 at Charley Taylor Recreation Center, Parkhill Park or Grand Prairie Landfill. (Remove all ornaments, stands and plastic bags. Artificial trees or trees sprayed with artificial snow cannot be accepted for recycling.) Acceptable trees will be recycled into mulch. Free mulch is available at the landfill to all Grand Prairie residents. Trees may also be left at curbside on your normal garbage collection day. However, these trees will not be recycled into mulch and will be collected as garbage. For more information, please call 972-237-4566.

Recycling at Your Home

Grand Prairie offers a curbside recycling program for residential customers. If you live in an apartment complex, you can recycle at one of Grand Prairie's recycling drop-off stations.

Recycling at Your Workplace

Commercial bag service customers are eligible to participate in Grand Prairie's curbside recycling program, too!

Recycling in Your Community

If you are not eligible for the curbside recycling program, you can still recycle in Grand Prairie! Look up a recycling drop-off station near you.

Recycling at Your School

The city of Grand Prairie provides educational opportunities for area schools so that students can learn about the value of recycling.

The Kirby Creek Nature Center’s Exhibition Garden is a collaborative effort of the City of Grand Prairie and the Grand Prairie ISD. Kids work with an onsite environmental science instructor to learn about nature. Every student in the district comes out to the garden at least one time in a year.
