Grand Prairie Independent School District and the Arlington ISD predominate among the six public school districts with boundaries in the City of Grand Prairie.

The Grand Prairie ISD comprises 24 elementary schools, seven middle schools, five senior high schools, three 6-12 schools and one alternative education schools. Students whose residences are on the Dallas County side of the city attend GPISD.

Students who reside in Tarrant County and Grand Prairie attend Arlington ISD, which comprises 10 high schools, 11 junior high schools, 55 elementary schools (six in Grand Prairie. AISD has no junior high schools or high schools in Grand Prairie.) Tarrant County/Grand Prairie students also attend Mansfield ISD schools. Mansfield ISD has three elementary schools in Grand Prairie. Ellis County/Grand Prairie students attend Midlothian ISD schools. Dallas County/Grand Prairie students who live south of Grand Prairie ISD attend Cedar Hill schools. Dallas County/Grand Prairie students who live north of Grand Prairie ISD attend Irving ISD schools.

Irving ISD covers a small portion of Grand Prairie in the north, Cedar Hill, Mansfield and Midlothian ISDs cover relatively larger portions of south Grand Prairie.
